Whatever it does not matter the important is the dimension

Is the finish important? you could make a thin line with a diamond scriber. If you can get a 'V' shaped groove cut by grinding or other machining & it is too wide, you could polish back the surface of the glass to make the groove thinner.

Find a local window manufacturer many have or know some one that can furrow the glass for you.

Try etching a furrow. This can be done with great precision. There are several chemicals that can be used and you can vary the concentration to get an etch rate which you can control. A mask may be required.

What depth do you need?

There are several methods that could be used, but it depends on your application which would work best with the project.

- grind v-notch and polish down

- etch

- patterned thin film coating on glass (me preferred method)

Hi IRDglass. I agree with you. I built my own optical spectrometer using this method. I bought a plastic film of optical grating from a Japanese firm many years ago, then I glued it to a sheet of thin glass. This still works well, and I think that the guy should contact a Japanese optical company. Spencer.
