Several considerations need to be addressed:

What is your application?

What durometer is the rubber (including the composition)

concentricity of the journals of the roll to the body of the core

concentricity of the journals to the rubber exterior

you will have to balance the roll to eliminate any chatter

is your roll a live shaft or a dead shaft ?

why dont you go back to the manufacturer and request a replacement?

Yes you Can

The drive can be flat, the driven usually has a slight crown & a way to track, you may have to increase the spring tension to compensate for the lower friction of steel.
