IBR Requirement for Steam Tracing Pipes

05/23/2011 3:00 AM

Dear all,

With reference to the title above, I am working for an oil piping project in which steam at 9 kg/cm2 (a) pressure is used for tracing the oil pipe.

Since the steam pressure exceeds IBR range we are taking approval from IBR for Steam piping and interconnecting valves and fittings.

By doubt is whether we have to take approval for oil pipe and valves coming in oil line or not; since we are using 9 kg/cm2 steam tracers around oil pipe.

Kindly clarify the doubt and do me needful....

The oil piping will need to conform to its own regulations for the pressure and temperature involved, but it will not need to conform to the steam conditions.

(Unless your local bureaucracy is really weird.)

Any process piping for which tracing are used, do not fall under preview of IBR. Process's own regulatory controles take care of those piping. How ever all condensate line down stream of tracers, if going to process, shall be covered under IBR.
