Effect of External Interference in Partial Discharge Test

05/25/2011 9:13 AM

Can anyone tell the effect of external noise when we are doing a partial discharge test.

I heard that there will be some error if external interference is present....

If there is external interference, you cannot determine if the disturbance if due to partial discharge or the external disturbance.

If you are able to increase the applied voltage slowly, the external interference will usually be displayed at a low voltage and the partial discharge will appear suddenly. (Except for oil filled equipment)
