I guess you don't understand the power of Google either... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributed_control_system

The controls are distributed throughout the system. What panel?

This seems to be difficult to the beginner but if you have sometimes to play with it. It becomes simple.

As my understating since I have more than 02 years playing with that. DCS, as several gurus said that it is a Distributed control system which you can find by following the above link.

How it will control, if you have some control valves, you want to monitor the water pump current, or the temperature of the bearing of the turbine. You will need this.

Basically, DCS is a general term, within this system, you will have equipments to be control and monitors which are called field equipments (motors, control valves, meters...). They are all connected to the local panel which is call FCS (Field control station, if I got it right). In this panel, PLC and the terminals, relay boards... are all functioned to send the signal into the monitor (very soon, you will feel confused why people call control station as DCS). out from the field equipments... the monitor and the FCS can talk to each other via Ethernet network. Depends on the application, you will have only one or 100 FCSs. The more FCS your system requires, the larger amount of input/output of your system. And the more input/output you know, the more people will "respect" you.

The whole system, they are called DCS. How do you think now?

Then, that equipment kills you because of what? You will need some more times to play with it, you know.

I don't care of it is BHEL or what else since it makes no sense to me. I have 02 years to play with only one DCS panel. Welcome to the real world, mate.

Find an old timer instrument engineer who has watched this develop since early days in the 60s & 70s. Get very clear in your head the idea of a control loop with setpoint and process variable feedback. Early panels had rows of controllers with adjustable setpoints and the feedback from the field indicated alongside.

The piping and instrument diagram was needed to fully understand what was going on, and a plastic mimic was used to show us the various loops.

Later the mimic and process details were shown on a screeen, with computers simulating what was previously done with pneumatic or electronic controllers. I worked on honeywell & siemens, and others, all fundamentally doing the same job of controlling loops. So the different valves, pumps, temperature, pressure, etc items are all represented on the screens. You must be seeing coloured diagrams of gas turbines & alternators, switchgear and so on. The operators can change certain values but theirs is the lowest level of access.

I don't think you will have the level of access to fiddle about with the processes so you don't need to worry, any bugs or malfuctions and you send for the manufacturers guy, if you are an instrument tech you may be able to change a loop performance, but normally you won't need to know how to change screen layouts, add another loop, or change the piping/electrical diagrams.

You must be familiar with the idea of a control loop, then "what panel will control the instrument" may mean more to you. You need a long time ( 6 months) with someone who has worked on these systems for many years. It's so easy to sit around and do nothing, hard to go out and ask questions, take notes, research and learn.
