Computer Engineering Help Needed: Eliminating Illegal Electric Connection

04/12/2007 1:10 PM

Im a computer engineering student from philippines. our thesis proposal is all about eliminating illegal electric connection specifically in residential areas. the type of electric connection here in philippines is not like what other countries had. were just living with bunch of wires around our houses. so, pelifers have big chances to steal electricity. i come up with an idea by using an end-to-end process of consuming electricity. from our electric post through our main switches by having modules on both end..

i believe that this is a very good idea that comes from my thick skull once in my life.

my problem is... i dont know where to start.. for those who can help me. please mail me at garyandrew_15@yahoo.com so i can send you full abstract of the study.

What do you mean by a module at each end? Do you mean some sort of monitoring unit that makes sure the power going down a cable is the same as the power coming out the other end or something else? If this is what you are thinking about then there a couple of ways that you could go about it but is will mean running extra conductors.

How do people actually go about pilfering power, where do they tap into the feed to get the power? What sort of metering system do you use, are they the old type of mechanical system or are they electronic meters that can be read remotely?

I know I have asked a lot of questions but to get a good idea of what you are trying to do needs at least the information I have asked for.
