How to Find Process Gain and Time

06/03/2011 12:38 AM

Guys i am modeling the closed loop response for temperature control on coolers. The controller is a PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller. Wanted to ask how do i determine the process gain and time for the cooling process. Also of importance is how do you find the transfer functions of a RTD (Resistance temperature detector) and control valve.

The process of determining the controller terms is called tuning. It is a process carried out by the Instrument Engineer setting-up the loop.

It can be done theoretically using some mathematics that is sometimes available for study in the third year of a Chemical Engineering degree.
