Queries Regarding Use of ASME SEC. VIII for Valves.

06/07/2011 2:45 AM

Hi,

I have a query regarding the ASME SEC. VIII. BPVC.

1. We regularly referred ASME SCC VIII.-Div 1 for non-customer side flange design. There are 2 divisions of ASME SEC. VIII, i.e. Div. 1 & Div. 2 (alternative Rules), which to be preferred when?

2. Can we keep the thickness of bonnet flange(T1) less than non-customer side (i.e. bonnet side) body flange thickness (T), if supported by calculations? (Please refer ASME SEC. VIII Div. 1. Mandatory Appendices, 1.6 Dished Covers (Bolted Flange) page 333.)

3. Please refer the SCOPE of ASME Sec. VIII. Div 1. U-1 (e), Scope says, we can't use the code for pipe, pumps & valves etc.

Kindly refer below statement from ASME Sec. VIII. Div 1. U-1 (e), -

(e) piping components, such as pipe, flanges, bolting,

gaskets, valves, expansion joints, fittings, and the pressure

containing parts of other components, such as strainers

and devices which serve such purposes as mixing, separating,

snubbing, distributing, and metering or controlling

flow, provided that pressure containing parts of such components

are generally recognized as piping components or

accessories;

Please Suggest,

Regards,

Ratnakar

Hi,

Why don't use ANSI/ASME B16.34 which is specific for valve design?
