Pin To Hole Removal

06/10/2011 1:28 AM

I have a Circular Pin to Hole (Dia 20mm) assembly fixture (manipulator).Presently the contact is surface area of hole 5.5mm around the cylinder is in contact with the pin.The effort required to remove the pin is more.If i change the pin into a conical one (tapered pin).

Can i reduce the effort required to remove the pin?The total load on one pin is around 35Kg.

Any other Alternate solution(other than lubrication)

To reduce the force required to remove a pin I would suggest using a spring pin. It is a pin made of spring material rolled to the diameter reqired with a slight gap between the ends. The force of the spring is what holds the pin in place.

If a tappered pin is used and the hole is tappered the same, it will take much more force to remove the pin.

Sounds like you have a locating pin sticking because of a tight tolerance.

Tapered pins introduce location problems because of the taper and are used in permanent applications for an economical interference fit. Tapered pins are actually worse for sticking in your application because they develop an interference fit at some point.

Using fully hardened pin and bushing with correct tolerancing will usually solve this problem. These are available from many international suppliers. Solid carbide pins and bushings work well though they are expensive and brittle.

Using pins and bushings with a hard coating and/or solid lubrication coating will also solve your problem if coating facilities are available in your area.

These kind of pins are extensivelly used for molds and dies making. any moldmaker or mold maker components company can help you. Another solution could be replace the pin for a bolt and nut, but you have to analyse the application since the bolt should be loose inside the hole.
