Wanted Belt Driven R744 AC Compressor

06/11/2011 8:21 PM

I have been all over the net and also a member of R744.com and sent many email enquiries but no replies. All I want is to purchase a belt driven AC compressor designed for CO2 (R744) I understand they are getting common in EU and will be sort of mandated for 2012 for automotive. If you are from EU and have the name or email address of a AC supplier(warehouse) please provide the info. Just some info, on the ones I have found a capacity of from 20-40 CC is fine but I may consider larger. It appears the manufacturers have no interest in a small purchase based on lack of replies. Thanks to Engineering Community for your help. Cheers. Roy Hammy

These were my first choice and I sent two emails asking for a source of purchase with no reply. If any one knows of a warehouse /distributor would appreciate greatly.. Thanks for the effort.. Roy Hammy

There are few companies in India who manufacture these type of compressors. Frick India is one among them. You can check their web site if it is available.

This is sort of OT, or at least a tangent:

Using CO2 as a refrigerant sounds like a good idea. Based on what is probably an advertising type blurbs at Expert analyses refrigerant choice and UPDATE: Germany awards R744 system for its high-efficiency, it seems to be efficient in both cooling and heating application. (One line says 35% less energy use for supermarket refrigeration.)

And, sort of environmental friendly. (Well, somebody could argue, but it is a natural substance, and if CO2 is obtained from the atmosphere (or fossil fuel plant stacks), it would seem to be an environmental plus. Not very corrosive (afaik), at least at typical atmospheric pressures. I wouldn't think you need particularly exotic materials to construct the system.

Does it need a higher operating pressure, and thus perhaps better seals and such in the compressor?

What are the drawbacks of using CO2 as a refrigerant?

There is a lot of info on R744 CO2 yes it operates at much higher pressure about 1000 PSI thus the more robust compressors and components. Advantgage for me is it boils at -78C and the higher pressure is a plus for my application especialy coming from the evaporator. Lots of info on R744.com.
