Traditionally power factor correction was provided by fixed capacitor banks which were calculated to address the worst maximum demand periods, but obviously this fixed value correction could not mirror the full 24 hour cycle requirements.

Later, power factor monitoring relays switched individual capacitor banks to give closer monitoring with the relay switching capacitor banks in and out according to demand conditions.

I can only assume that Real Time Correction is a more sophisticated system which uses multiple smaller capacitor banks to mirror and keep in step with demand conditions 24 hours a day.

I'll keep an eye out for the correct answer

A micro processor is set up to measure the phase relation ship between the on load and supply and a refference so as to determin the powerfactor and phase shape it then trims the correction inline with the changinging load more inductance switching in more capacitance until the phase is back to the best powerfactor. It is just a fancy computor unit that can switch the caps in and out via electronic switches. Relays are too slow and they wear out. Each machine can have its own unit built in. It saves on power disturbances.

What my tag line "There are them that knows and them that thinks they knows."

It means much what it says "some know more than others" "Some just think they know" (Which are you?) as in do you know all you think you do? May give an opinion but have no knowledge others give information without knowing what they type. One person admitted to going to wikipedia and just taking his answer from their and google he gave the right answer but said he knew very little of what it meant.

Hi !

I am sorry but you need to correct the language you have written,it has to be

There are them, who know and them, who think they know.

I guess this would be a proper one.

I also do not understand the propriety of this question as i tried getting information which i did not have.

PsD

We do get real time compensation for both Reactive & Harmonics now adays. The Circuit consisits of IGBTs and a capacitor. The capacitors will charge & discharge depending on reactive compensation require. The regular Passive filters ( tank circuit)just connected to circuit without change in any compensation depending on system conditions.

Pl. convey who does this using IGBTs and how reliable it is.

What is the switching time in that case?

Pl.pass on the details.
