Hydraulic Thrust in Hydro Generators

06/14/2011 1:49 PM

Hello everybody:

I will very much appreciate if you can addressing me to papers or documents (or your comments as well) dealing with the hydraulic thrust developed in hydro generators.

In addition to the weight of the rotating parts (generator rotor, generator shaft, turbine runner and turbine shaft), this axial thrust in vertical mounted units is supported by the thrust bearing assembly.

Even when I know and understand that such a thrust is motivated, among others, by the head water level, the flow of water through the turbine runner, the speed of rotation, the leakages in the labyrinths seals of the turbine, etc. I think there is more to be learned on this subject and, why not, an approach to its calculation.

Thanks in advance.
