About Conduction, Convection & Radiation

Dear friends,

I have one doubt, I have a motor, which is Water cooled by water jacket..

In which category this heat dissipation occurs?

I am in Confusion that, is heat dissipation by Conduction, or Convection or Radiation?

Heat is removed from the motor primarily by conduction into the water. What happens after that depends on your arrangement for cooling the heated water.

Conduction in the wall between coils and water flow through insulation and any resin filling or even thin air layers where no convection can develop.

Convection between wall and water flow.

Convection between water and exchanger wall.

Conduction within the exchanger wall.

Convection between exchanger wall and air.

first conduction by water, the water will most likely go to a radiator where the heat is dissipated by both convection and radiation.

The answer was simple and is already given in earlier posts. But it would have been appreciated if you had time to think about how the heat flows from different components into the cooling media.

You should try to think about a phenomenon and if a particular aspect is not clear the help can be sought, but not in a aspect as basic as this. Fortunately (I hope) it does not look a class assignment since this is something that would have been covered in your first year or so.

Take it as an advice. The answer to the questions would be available on net as well as some one will answer in a forum like this (though most of us do avoid). But unless you start thinking it won't really help you to undesrtand how the hings work (the fundamental of Engineering) .

The majority of heat dissipation occurs through conduction and convection

Through conduction between the heated surface and the boundry layer of the water and then convection between water molecules and some of the heat is transferred through convection to the boundry layer and subsequent conduction between boundry layer and water jacket from where it is dissipated to the atmosphere through convention and radiation
