Are you looking for a niche market or a mass market.

I'd look at: starter motors for cars, hand tools and white goods (washing machines vacuum cleaners etc.) perhaps.

I recently had to replace the carbon brushes in the motor in my washing machine. The machine is Hotpoint, but, the motor was Bosch. The cheapest I could find the brushes was about 30 US dollars. Could you design a brushless washing machine motor? Or, just figure a way to supply carbon brushes at a reasonable price to people not in the industry. Sorry if this is irrelevant, just something I want to whinge about.

I have a friend that sells and rewinds motors. Its no longer cost effective to rewind motors under 200hp, they sell them for scrape and replace with new. I infrequently purchase new motors up to 200hp and its not hard to get distributors discounting just to get the business. Are you sure you want to get involved with a product that is so mature and is in a saturated market? Unless you are already deep into it (your posts suggests not) I would look for something that is more specialized with fewer players.

I hate to rain on your parade devarsh. In my opinion you may want to rethink any type of manufacturing here in the United States unless you have unlimited access to very inexpensive labor. More and more manufacturing is outsourced overseas, due to low labor costs, not to mention almost nonexistence environmental laws, which translates to additional windfall for oversea companies.
