415V can kill you dead. 33kV can kill you deader, quicker, if you don't know what you are doing.

Hire a qualified high voltage engineer. The life he saves might just be yours.

In connection to the start of this thread. Could anyone explain how different switching techniques for high voltages are (from much lower voltages like 5 to 15 V)? I am guessing that there will be certain effects of using low voltage switching methods on high voltages too, though I got little idea of why - if anyone could explain.

HV & LV procedures are basically the same. Isolate and lock.

Where the difference does occur is earthing arrangements for the conductors if physical contact is going to be made with them. With HV all conductors should be solidly earthed unless a sanction to test is in operation. LV can be tricky, on a long cable run I would earth, a short run I would leave it to the individual doing the job. Bear in mind that a lot of LV work is done LIVE.

33Kv is usually a supply from your power supplier.

I suggest that you get them to switch it off!!

What work are you doing in the sub-station?
