Brush/Brushless Synchronous Motor?

Friends,

I'm looking at some protection schemes for synchronous motor, can somebody tell the industrial applications for it? (please don't give me text book ideas )

Is automatic start of sychronous motors worth enough to be designed? Anybody using it in the field?

What are the generall protection schemes required for synchronous motor?

Anybody using synchronous motor or heard stories about it please share your experience.

2- Current

These are textbook, but cant imagine why you would want something else? Possibly vibration???

Which of these is common in field- brush or brushless? tapping field current IF or field voltage VF would be difficult in brushless.
