What Makes The Turbo Operate

Dear All

In a standby generator system, what makes the turbo operate is it by exhaust system?

I hope the gurus can shed light on this.

Do you mean turbocharger (as on some engine driven generators), or do you mean a turbine (most likely powered by steam, but possibly by fuel)?
