	The variable you are measuring may undergo rapid fluctuations (especially if it is pressure, and maybe flow, but wild temperature swings less likely). Damping smooths out such variations, making gauges or meters more steady. __________________ In vino veritas; in cervisia carmen; in aqua E. coli.
