Strange Motor Winding Diagram

07/08/2011 12:55 PM

Hello,

I have a three phase asynchronic squirrel cage induction motor.

  • the stator has 24 slots,
  • winding pitch 1 - 7
  • the winding is a ONE LAYER winding !!!!!!

There are no data on the motor, but

  • according to the motor switch diagram I / 0 / II (and internal switch connections) it is a Dahlander motor
  • according to the internal winding connections it is a triangle / double wye and 4 pole / 2 pole motor
  • according to the application the load torque is constant. (no pump or ventilation)

The problem is that this kind of motor is normally made

  • with DOUBLE layer winding
  • and winding pitch 1-7.

But my motor is only ONE layer winding.

I took the original winding diagram, but if I draw the magnetic field in each slot according the flow of the current in that slot (and this for each coil), the magnetic field is not equal distributed in the stator.

The 4 pole connection seems to be correct, but the 2 pole connection has a 8 slots wide gap with counter acting magnetic fields.

Does anyone has a winding diagram for this motor?

Can you draw what you found?

I think it is possible to make 2/4 pole, 24 slots, single-layer Dahlander winding with 6 groups x 2 coils, span 1-7. Only, previously you should determine exactly what kind of load is: constant or variable torque or constant horsepower because internal connections for these three kinds of windings, are different.

Double-layer winding contains 6 groups x 4 coils with span 1-7.

We have rewound the motor in the same way as it was, and it is running fine.

So

  • three phase AC induction motor,
  • 2 and 4 poles, dahlander connection
  • one layer winding,
  • 24 slots

is possible to make and works.
