Smart Grid/Substation Automation Career Path

07/11/2011 11:01 AM

Please has anyone got ideas on how I can tailor my career towards Smart Grid Systems and/or Substation Automation maybe through a training or the likes?

I am currently into control systems applications design, programming, configuration and maintenance (software and hardware).

I have some experience in Power Systems and Protection too.

Please any insights are welcome. Thanks.

What is your passion? What is it that you would rather do, even if it pays less ? Go that way.

Remember, paychecks come once a month (in India) whereas you do your job 24/7. Much better to get paid for something you love doing anyway (as Fred Astaire is supposed to have said )

Does "currently into" mean that you are currently interested in? Or that you are currently working in?

Also this post might fit in better in the engineering careers section.

Ooops...Yeah, that's true! Fits well in engineering careers. Pardon me! "currently into" means I am currently working in... I desire to be launched into Smart Grid Systems and or Substation Automation, I only need guidance as to what to do (probably like a training/trainee programme). I'd appreciate y'all's advice.

In OKLA. our big Electric co. called OG and E ,OG&E recently installed this smart grid on all of the houses in OKC,OK.

All I know about it is they sent out a letter saying they would need access to your Box and then they went back there and put on a new piece. There wasnt much to the upgrade part of it.I would try to get some temp work helping to install the upgrades if it was my choice.ds
