My Major is automotive engineering. I have taken courses in automotive powertrain dynamics, hybrid vehicle dynamics, vehicle dynamics. I have a very basic knowledge of electronics & microprocessors but I am willing to learn it if my project needs it. I have a background of design engg too.
I had designed and built a go cart few years back with hard wired electronic steering, electronic throttle and brake. I am looking for a system in a vehicle that I can build and let it have its own control. As far as building a system or a vehicle for that matter, I can do that in 2 months time but lack of knowledge in microprocessors and programming makes it challenging. I have 4 months to complete the project.
Could you suggest any simple buildable system that can be controlled automatically?
Yep. Make a road vehicle as automatic as the trains on the Docklands Light Railway. Imagine a world with no collisions, no speeding, no parking problems, no pedestrian or animal impacts, etc., etc. - a world where one could summon a road vehicle at any instant, dial-in a destination, and abandon it on arrival there.
No more ownership required!

That is a great idea! But 4 months would not be enough for me to make an autonomous vehicle. It needs GPS, collision avoidance, driver vision, motion control and moreover these systems are too expensive.
I would be more than happy even if I could incorporate any one of the system successfully.
I appreciate the idea though. I never knew such system exists. Please let me know if you have more ideas and one of them might really be possible.
