AVR Studio 5

07/16/2011 7:08 PM

I just learned that AVR just came out with the new version of AVR studio, AS5. Has anybody been playing with it?

It certainly looks fancy from what I have seen so far. We are using a proprietary development tool and AS5 is free.

I would like to recommend my company to switch but I wanted to get your impression first.

Hmm maybe you should of put a hyphen between AS & 5, unfortunately in the CR4 default font 5 looks like an S.

So; "AS5. Has anybody been playing with it." and " AS5 is free" gave me the best belly laugh for a cold Sunday morning (Oz time).

As for using AVR products, sorry I can't help you, I'm trying to get my head around PIC's. My guru mate Grumpy has made the transition from Zilog's Z8's to PIC's and tells me PIC's are easy.. Maybe for him...

I chuckled too.

I am pretty well up to speed on PICs now. The thing that made all the difference was the PIC Basic compiler from MELabs (not an endorsement). It costs a bit, but is easy to program with - at least for me, since I was already familiar with QBasic and VB. To heck with assembly.

What are you using for a compiler?

No, I haven't. I tried finding it on Atmel's site, but could not. Can you send me a link? I want to find out more.

Thanks,

Mike
