Water Hammer

07/20/2011 2:47 AM

dear friends ?

how do you do ? this is my question

what is the water hammer ? how to protect my Golf landscape ... ( the dimensions will be installed if you will ask about it ?) known that i have relief valve for the main pump and check valve to every pipe which suck from tanks ?

dimensions of pipes ( 12" , 10" , 8" , 6" , 4" and 3" )

the longest distance 400 meter ( between pump and last hole which will irrigate )

does the system need accumulator ?

water hammer is usually due to air trapped in the l water lines. there are different ways to prevent it depending on the design.

i would install a cold water storage tank that has a air bladder inline with the water system. it should absorb the water hammer.

it means you will use hydro-pneumatic system for that ? or only just a tank which has half of water and there is a check valve its direction will be to tank ???

yes, i'm referring to a hydo-pneumatic tank. it should be placed near the source of the noise.

What's the head pressure at the check valves. What you hear could be them slamming closed.

The swing gate will slam shut with a lot of back pressure it could well be the noise you are hearing. 12 bar a lot of pressure. Use stethoscope to listen to them to see if they are the cause. If they are there are other types that will eliminate the slamming closed of the valve.
