Windows 7 Programs Won't Run

07/21/2011 10:10 AM

I picked up the Win 7 virus, loaded up SuperSpyWare to get rid of it--which it seems to have done--but now none of my programs will run.

When I click the shortcut or try to launch from All Programs, I get the message This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action..blah blah

The programs all appear to be installed--I just can't run them. I am supposed to "ceate an assocoiation in ther default programs control panel, but it doesn't tell be how to do that.

Help!

This looks like it may take some time, but it's the most promising solution I could find.

Don't click on the top download, it's a come on to get your money.

The biggest problem with that solution is that I need to download all those links, and my system won't run anything like Explorer or Mozilla. It won't even run Spider Solitaire.

Thanks, mate. A System Restore did it, but it was a bitch.

None of the Windows restore or control panel programs wanted to work, and it told me I had no backups, but I sort of snuck up on it somehow and restored it to a point a week ago. I can't tell you exactly how I did it, but it worked.

And, as soon as AVG came up, it found and eliminated two trojans. So much for Superspyware, eh? I'm not sure now which one demolished my computer.

Thanks again.

Rich

Damned computers!

I was talking to a client today that was on and off the phone with his IT person.

I said, " Can you imagine what Star Trek would be like if they had to hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete, every time something went wrong."

Hell, we'd all be dead, or speaking Klingon.

Glad it worked out.

Thats why the Klingons never won a war. They bought there software from the Romulans who stole it from Microsoft.

I hope you meant to say SUPERAntiSpyware instead of SuperSpyWare.

SuperSpyWare is computer software that infiltrates your computer and is able to access your personal information. This is done by logging your keystrokes, web browsing history, and even scanning your hard drive. From http://spyware-blocker-s.com/super-spyware/

SUPERAntiSpyware is most times a very good program but like most anything there are exceptions. Anyhow, it sounds like you slicked by a bad one. Congratulations!

Your system will run all of those links as soon as the registry is repaired.
What is happening is the registry for internet and some other related programs has changed so that the virus will run first, and then it is supposed to run your program. Now that the virus is gone, the registry is trying to find it to run your program!
copy the following text after (Code:) and save it to a text file with the name "avfix.reg"
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
; remove the bad key since we don't need it[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\.exe]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]@="exefile""Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\PersistentHandler]@="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile]@="Application""EditFlags"=hex:38,07,00,00"FriendlyTypeName"=hex(2):40,00,25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,\ 00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,00,5c,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,\ 32,00,5c,00,73,00,68,00,65,00,6c,00,6c,00,33,00,32,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,\ 00,2c,00,2d,00,31,00,30,00,31,00,35,00,36,00,00,00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\DefaultIcon]@="%1"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open]"EditFlags"=hex:00,00,00,00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]@="\"%1\" %*""IsolatedCommand"="\"%1\" %*"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\runas]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\runas\command]@="\"%1\" %*""IsolatedCommand"="\"%1\" %*"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\DropHandler]@="{86C86720-42A0-1069-A2E8-08002B30309D}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers\PifProps]@="{86F19A00-42A0-1069-A2E9-08002B30309D}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers\ShimLayer Property Page]@="{513D916F-2A8E-4F51-AEAB-0CBC76FB1AF8}"

****Now double click the file you created and the registry will be repaired from the virus damage.

Thanks, Deef, but I did a Restore and it's running fine now. In fact, I'm on that laptop now with no problems.

Ok, cool. That won't always work though, many viruses store themselves in the restore points!

It's primarily te space bar, butalso letters ocasionally. It's almost as if som process is blocking the signal from the keyboard. I've looked all over and can't find the fix.

Any ideas?

Ileft this postuntouched. As you can imagine, it's a realpain togo backand correct every time.

I haven't seen this before, but you might have a keylogger or other spyware that's messing up. Re-run the Windows updates and also run a full scan in safe mode from the command prompt if you can.

Also, see if it happens in safe mode. If not, then run msconfig and boot into diagnostic mode and test again. If it goes away in diag mode, then it's a extra driver or program and you'll have to try and figure out which one by changing msconfig to selective and re-booting and re-testing. Then uninstall the offensive program/driver.

Thanks Deef. I wrote a note to the people who's browser I use. Not only did they reply, but they said it was a bug in the browser update, and they sent me the fix. Now that's service.................especially with a free browser.

Just downloaded the fix, and everything is fine. Thanks for the response.
