Further (A great concert)

07/29/2011 9:45 AM

What the heck, we're going into a weekend.

Any old Deadheads out there? Remember any of the shows?

I went to a Further concert last night, and I have got to say, if you liked the Dead back in the 60s and 70s, try to catch these guys. Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, a new singer that sounds just like Jerry, and a great band. All of the oldies and goodies!!!!

Cameras and recording were allowed at the show. These are my pictures...............no copyright violation. The little one is my daughter Emily.

You too.

It was a lot of fun. I'm sure there are others here that at one time enjoyed these shows..................they're just not sure if they want to talk about it.

Went to BB Kings in Nashville. Didn't need beer. The BLUUUES got me buzzin'. There are at least a dozen kinds of jazz. I really enjoy 75% of them and appreciate the rest.

I've reached the point where, as far as music goes, I like lots of stuff in moderation.

I've got this run from the computer to my front porch stereo. Good site. Matter of fact, it's Friday. About time to get things rolling.

Appreciate the referral. Unfortunately, every time I bring up one of those kinds of sites, I find myself waiting for a restore point to finalize. I usually rely on college radio stations. (WMUH, Muhlenberg College, Try to catch "The Dutch Man" online) Lots of variety there. Fire Sign Theater to Hendrix and everything in between. Luckily I have three to choose from plus NPR. And largely non commercial to boot.

Yep. College stations are always a good source. Shaw university is a (traditionally), black school here. One DJ's playlists run like he picked them out of my head. Lots of old blues, and he loves Hendrix.

Yep.

It was a late night.

My buddy out in Santa Cruz, CA called me yesterday morning and begged me to get him an east coast tour poster. I picked up 2 of them for $30 apiece. They're selling on ebay for about $175...................go figure. I should have bought all of them.

I actually went to the Furthur show in Saratoga last week. It was the first time I've seen any of the Grateful dead guys but I have been to many Phish shows over the past decade.

It was definitely a good time, glad to see this thread here on CR4! =)

Once in a while a little distraction from engineering is Ok in my book.

I almost didn't go. Bob Weir came through here about 6 years ago. I can't remember if it was with Rat Dog or The Other Ones. I was totally unimpressed.

I didn't start seeing the Dead until about 77. I'm glad you got to see them. These shows are about as close to those shows from the 70s that you can get.

I wish they would have left this thread on the front page over the weekend. I suspect that there are more than just two of us.

Plus I got quite a few awesome pictures.

I've got a lot of friends that are into Phish. I never could quite get my brain into them, but I'd like to see them live. Didn't I hear they were getting back together and going on tour?

Well you probably missed your chance this year to see Phish, they have been touring heavily since they got back together 3 years ago but the only dates left are Chicago and West Coast.

Here's some pictures from a show I went to in Amherst last year.

If you want to listen to some of the shows for Phish, Futhur or similar bands, check out this site.

Very cool! I'm sure I would have fun at a Phish show.

Have you ever heard of Max Creek. Those guys came out of my little Connecticut town. I don't know if they're still playing or not. Great shows!!!

Tons of awesome Dead shows, as well as a massive amount of other great live shows and artists here. It's all free and legal. Some of the sound board recordings are incredible!!!

Bob and Phil can't possibly look as grey and grizzled as that. Why, they almost look old, which would make me...almost mature. Harrumph.

I can't tell you how many Dead concerts I saw from 1972 onward. NYC was a high point (pun?) for their tours, so it seemed as if they were always in town.

Sounds like you had a great time, Kram, and thanks for sharing it with us. What did Emily think of the music and the crowd?

It's also interesting that some of the young'uns (Hi Kaplin, whoop whoop) are into that type of music, too.

Re: Further (A great concert)

I was thinking the same thing. If little Bobby is that old, what am I?

I went through a Deadhead phase from 77-80. I had to drop out of the scene when I realized that some of my friends actually thought Jerry was God...........................and they weren't kidding!!!!

Camping out on the sidewalk for our $5.50 tickets was as fun as the show itself.

Emily had a great time. What could possibly be bad about people watching and free style dancing?

BTW- Patchouli oil still smells the same....................didn't like it then, and I still don't.

Well, I sort of like it in small doses.

I've been to quite a few Dead shows, but not since Jerry died. Now that I have kids I'd really enjoy bringing them to a show. I'm glad to hear Further is groovin' on.

I've been to quite a few Phish shows too. They are a lot of fun live...

Thanks for the post kramarat.

I don't even know his name. But I could close my eyes and hear Jerry singing.

Just amazing. I'm so glad that Bob and Phil got on the right track and went back to singing the old Dead songs that everyone wants to hear.

THE DEAD WILL NEVER DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder why I didn't see that one.....................I was living in Santa Cruz.

Maybe I did.

The last time I tried to see Jerry, he was playing with David Grisman at that ski resort up by Tahoe. I lost patience sitting in traffic..................moved about 30 feet in an hour. Turned around, sold my tickets and went and had fun at the lake.....................I'm glad I did. I heard that the sound quality, combined with the wind, made it a less than memorable show.
