What are the Specs for STKM13A-E1?

08/04/2011 12:58 AM

Is it the same as STKM13A from the JIS standards with some *special* qualities?

The spec E(x) in the JIS book stands for electrical resistant weld..... huh? Is it the same as seamless weld but with *special* qualities?

Weld ≠ Seamless.

so you mean stkm13A is seamless and stkm13a-E1 is welded at the seams? isn't stkm13A pipes are welded at the seams?

I am not very familiar with Japanese standards. In the U.S., there are pipe standards such as SA53-B-ERW and SA53-B-S. Here, ERW (or just E) = electric resistance welded, and S = seamless. In many cases they are equally good, and either can serve for the other. But there may be Codes or customer preferences that require specifically one, but not the other.

seamless has no welds done on the pipe right?

I forget; but one could probably Google it. Basically, "skelp" (coiled flat stock) is roll-formed into a pipe/tube with a longitudinal welded seam. Some related topics could include extrusion (either through bridged dies for welded pipes/tubes, or over a mandrel for seamless); and DOM (drawn over mandrel) tubes. You are correct that seamless is without welds.
