Residual Compensation Factor

08/06/2011 10:10 AM

For double circuit transmission line distance protection (21) residual compensation factor is calculated.

What is the physical significance of the factor? and where it is applicable?

(No need of general mathematical calculation.)

This factor accounts for the mutual coupling between transmission lines in close proximity to each other. When there is a fault on one line it will also couple additional current flow in the unfaulted line and potentially influence the relaying protecting it, the residual compensation factor attempts to adjust for that influence.
