Stator Slots

08/09/2011 7:21 AM

I have come to known that induction motors are designed only with a standard set of slot numbers e.g. 24 slot ,36 slots , 48 slots stators and you will not find motors with any given number of stator slots. Do any one have any idea about it and can someone give me the standard values of slot numbers used in single phase / 3 phase motors.

Also can some one explain the relationship between stator slots and rotor bars /slots for a cage motor i.e. how much will be the rotor bars for a given number of stator slots.?

- Number of stator slots for three-phase , double-layer winding must be divisible by 3.

- Number of stator slots for three-phase , single-layer winding must be divisible by 6.

Single-phase winding can be done for all upper cases + some additional number of slots (16 or 32 for example).

The stator slots must also be divible by the number of poles in the windings.

speed (rpm) = 60*60Hz/poles (less about 1% for induction slippage) (typical poles = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6)

Unless you are actually designing a new motor, you should not have to worry about any of this. Pick the size motor with the speed that you need!!
