Formic Acid

08/10/2011 7:05 AM

I am an engineer working on designing a device that generates Hydrogen from the formic Acid.

Can you help me in finding out what material can resiste the formic Acid?

Go to the Cole-Parmer on-line materials compatibility database and read all <other corrosion charts are available>. Any search engine will find it.

There are a number of websites, like this one, which show chemical compatibility for a range of chemicals and materials. Google "chemical compatibility" and you will find many more. Always use at least two or three and crosscheck between them. This will give an indication, but not a guarantee, so always test the material yourself before you launch the product.

It is clear from your post that you have no experience with materials. Not sure what your area of competence is, but PLEASE READ THE HANDLING PRECAUTION NOTES on formic acid very carefully before this project begins.

Since you also seem not able to search for information, I have provided

Occupational Safety and Health Guideline for Formic Acid

this for you.
