PXI-8104 Embedded Controller

08/14/2011 12:40 PM

Dear All,

We have at our plant for real time data aqusition, National Instrument make PXI-8104 embedded controller. We have found that power LED is continuouly blinking instead of steady LED. We have checked all the thing as per manual and found everything in order.
We have also checked the supply loop in the chasis and it is found in order. We have also connected display unit through DVI-D port of the controller. No display is appered on the display unit, even boot screen.
We have also checked the RAM with our HP Notebook and it is working normal with Notebook. We have also tried its 1 GB Hard-disk with Notebook but after booting the OS was not booting.
In the manual the XP is installed in out controller.
So problem cannot be identified by us.
We have also checked the LED status on PCB of the controller, +3.3 V, VCC, 1.5V having green status.
Can anybody give the solution for this problem?

Have you called National Instruments?

Is there any other issue aside from the blinking LED?

What are the results of the POST? Any errors reported?

In order to get the DVI port to work in must be enabled in the BIOS. You could try a DVI-VGA adapter and put a standard plug and play monitor on the video port to see if only native VGA is supported. DVI was not a standard native mode for a lot of computers for years even though it was installed as the standard.

Checking the RAM outside of the box is good, but it doesn't test any of the control circuitry for the actual computer. For a thorough test of memory it must be tested in-situ.

If the OS is embedded into the controller it probably will not boot with other computers. The drivers were offloaded when the embedded system was created, probably with a custom kernel. The OS doesn't understand its environment and can therefore not boot.

Also, as asked by another poster; have you contacted National? This could be a simple change in the software where your power LED blinks like it is supposed to.
