Hydrotest Pressure

08/15/2011 3:10 AM

Dear Sir,

As per ASME 31.3 Para 345.4.2 (b)

for design temperature above the test temperature, the minimum test pressure shall be calculated by Eq.(24), except that the value of ST/S shall not exceed 6.5:

PT p =1.5 PST/S ..................(24)

where.......P = internal design gage pressure

PT = minimum test gage pressure

S = stress value at design temperature (see Table A-1)

ST = stress value at test temperature

What is this meaning. I have one system the design temp is 170 F. but the hydro test temp is less than this as normal. So how we calculate the test pressure.

Temp . 170 F Material - API 5L GrB, Design pressure 622 psig. Flange rating is 300# Please help me to get right testing pressure.

As per normal calculation I got 622* 1.5 = 933 psig.

Thanks and Regards

Vani
