The advantage is corrosion resistance. Rubber-lined pipe is often called into service where plastic pipes cannot be used for process considerations. There days, it is often a last stop before selecting borosilicate glass pipe systems.

The disadvantage is it cannot be welded or machined without significant risk to the factory-made component's corrosion resistance.

If there is no significant enhanced external corrosion risk then there should be practically no difference in performance between the two types of pipe. Some client organisations, however, may introduce restrictions on the one type or the other for reasons best known within, therefore follow the client piping standards in selecting components for the piping system desired.
