Problem In Diesel Generator

08/15/2011 10:24 AM

I am working on Diesel Generator Rotary UPS System of Piller. The dg set is not able to take load more than 350 KW. Total Capacity of engine is 1200KW/1500KVA. When load goes upto 400 KW engine rpm start fluctuating from 1490 to 1600. Wonder is that rpm are not going towards below but to higher side.

Its a clutch type of coupling when power is dere the system will run on electricity board supply but when power will fail the rups choke will take care the load till the engine will start. after starting the engine & when its rpm are 1500 the choke will couple the rups alternator to engine.

This sounds like a problem in the sense/regulator section of the generator, not a problem in the diesel itself. The engine is probably doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing based on the control signals it is receiving.

I would check into the phase sequencing circuits. The hunting is consistent with an issue there. More information as far as meter readings would be helpful.

Hi maddy1157,

Pls check your AVR module, maybe the Gain setting is too sensitive. How about when no load running ?

Regards

Hew

If all the AVR is OK, Most probably your clutch system might need checking.

up to 350kW you are OK then the problem starts: Slipping clutch most possible: Torque increse makes it slip (???).

Sounds like a governor problem, the system worked properly at one time, has any work been done on the system, check linkages, shields on wires, control power supply, fuel. Does the engine make any noises, is there white smoke coming from the exhaust. Those are some places to start
