08/15/2011 2:36 PM

Hello, Namaste sirs, i want to know how a transmission line distance protection calculate manually. We have a 120km line of 220kv.FLA is 80A. Transformer which supply power is 170MVA.how can decided zones ,its setting and time setting. We have Siemens make 7sA6 distance relay. i refer manual but no details found about zones.so please help me .

Please refer to NPAG guide (Network Protection Automation Guide)by AREVA.Page no200.Distance relay application example is provided.

Please read and understand.

Similarly Relay Application Guide by Siemens has given example for Distance Protection calculation. Please read this also

To calculate the zones it is necessary to take inputs of the transmission line conductor datas-positive and zero sequence resistance, reactance, impedance, phase angle etc. Also, collect the data of adjacent shortest and longest transmission line length and it's parameters. If there is any critical transformer then collect it's MVA rating, KV rating and %Z(With no of Trafos may in parallel).

Also, check the characteristics of the distance relay-Mho, polygon or quadralateral.

If you provide me that datas then I can give you the details of the calculation.

respected sir, sir as per your requirment , i can't collect all the data. We have 2 lines of 220 kv ,95 km long. Two relay of ge make use for each line , which is D60. 2 nos. Of GTs are parellal of 170 mva. no data about impadance, adjcent , etc. So i m requesting u to provide any real line calculations which u have available. I m fully dull in dist.protection. So please sir provide me any exampe which can teach me more . thanking u
