Fluid coupling problems

04/20/2007 12:20 AM

We have a dual drive variable fluid coupling system on a conveyor that does about 10 Thousand tonnes of ore, This coupling is linked to a control system and trends exist to capture the temperature, speed, power draw and torque. We have been having several issues with this coupling at different times,

1. Multilin faults (power draw related)

2. Tacho faults on high and low speeds

3. High temperature faults

I was wondering if anyone else encountered problems like this on variable fluid couplings, and what were the maintenance approaches on them?

You should get your coupling fluid system checked. Fluid couplings work on the principle of torque transmital through unconnected parts and less lube oil going into the casing will cause some of the faults you have indicated. Check you lube oil fill valves and make sure your lube oil pump is working correctly.
