Contingency Plan

08/22/2011 9:26 AM

A number of us got a little freaked out with last weekend's CR4 outage and I started thinking about, 'What if it was permanent?'

My thought is, that if it was permanent, it would be nice if we had some sort of contact with the other members here, at least the ones we care about communicating with, outside of CR4. At least we would be able to put our heads together and find another engineering site to converge on. (Don't worry admin., I'm sure it won't happen as long as you guys are around.)

Lyn and I have been facebook friends for about a year, with no ill effects, (neither of us use it much), and I'm sure many of you have outside contact with each other.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in forming a loose coalition, PM me if you want to exchange facebook info, emails, or both. I've got a couple of facebook friends that I barely know, that graduated from the same high school as me, I figure you guys/gals should be safe. I won't spam you. In fact, you probably won't hear from me unless CR4 goes away. It was nice to be able to contact lyn during the outage.

A thinly veiled attempt to force an upgrade of CR4 backup systems, nice

We're hoping that an outage won't happen again for a long time! But CR4 does have some social media accounts you can friend/fan/follow/join to keep you occupied. You could also converse via any of these places.

That's good news savvy!

I was just thinking to myself, that if anyone decides to go the facebook route with me personally, they're going to find out how incredibly mundane my life is. Ouch!

Anybody is welcome to PM me anyway. We'll have redundant backup.

Happy to help. We're always looking for more "fan" interaction on our social networks! Feel free to share stuff there - for example, quick links to articles/images that might be of interest but are too brief for a forum thread.

And I think being mundane is in the eye of the beholder. I used to think my life was boring and I then I realized I never spend a day at home. Not to mention all of the time I spend on CR4... not so boring after all!

I checked Twitter 3 or 4 times, but found no chatter about the CR4 troubles...

I'm easy to spot there: CR4 Doorman.

I'll place another image of my emergency ration that I opened:

I thought it might be a real emergency, so I opened one!

Those who do most of the tweeting were off this weekend. I didn't know about the outage until yesterday - that was the first time I checked in since Friday.

Hopefully the "What Happened" thread fed into Twitter but the feeds are randomized. CR4 users can also update their followers (and CR4's followers) by tagging @CR4_News in the tweet.

I don't tweet or twitter, but I guess those can be accessed with a regular computer. Or do you have to do it on your phone?

You can access Twitter from a computer or an app on your phone. (I think you can even send SMS messages without an app.) I prefer to use a computer.

I never had any use for those things. Just another old dog that doesn't feel like learning any new tricks. I can't even take a picture with my cell phone.

He probably thought it was awful to miss out on CR4. The weekend moderators probably thought it was awesome to have a little break from all of the activity.

Psst...my wife is away...so this is me.

A man is as young as he feels it is said.

Well my young (45 years old) doctor told me an anecdote...

This 70ish man walks into his office and says "Doctor, i am in trouble. You must help. Please lower my sex urge".

The doctor can't believe his ears..."But sir, here i am, 45, and worry that i can't get it up more than twice a week, and you want me to lower your urge !!!" He is fit to be tied.

"Ah, you misunderstand. Right now, it is all in my head. i want you to lower it to where it belongs "

I had more or less the same thought, and one of my (our) other CR4 friends and I exchanged information this morning, already.

It's funny how total strangers can become kindred spirits through forums, such as this.

Anyway, feel free to send me your information, too and I just might send some of you "gang" members my info too. Or, just send it to Mark, since this was his idea.

Cheers.
