Lifting Lugs Specification

04/20/2007 4:33 AM

I am building a power pack which is to be contained in a carbon steel crash frame. The frame is to be capable of lifting by overhead crane via slings so I want to weld lifting lugs at each corner.

The max gross weight of the power pack and frame etc. is 1050kg.

I would be grateful if any our readers have knowledge of, or where I can obtain detailed specifications and drawings for suitable lugs.

1050 Kg is very nice load, so you can use 2 lifting lugs with thickness 13 mm x length 120 mm x height 150 mm to be welded all-around to crash frame with fillet weld 12 mm size. The lug must be furnished with a hole dia. of 30 mm.

If the thickness of crash frame at zone of welding is less than 8 mm, you can use a pad under the lifting lug with dimensions 160 mm x 60 mm x 10 mm to be welded all-around with fillet weld size 8 mm.

hi there the most important thing about a lifting lugs is the the thickness of the material being used. i am a tradesman in australia an i have never seen a design for lugs most trade'ys use a 75x 10/12 flat bar about 100 long with a radius end with a 30mm hole drilled in the plate

I appreciate the response from both reporters to date, but would like to obtain details of formal specs e.g BSS or similar as the lugs will need to be load tested and certified.
