Yep. It has yet to reach North Dakota!

(Not that we would notice a change in our average wind speeds though.)

I was about to answer when the power went out. It's back now so:

A lot of rain with gusty winds, my screens are threatening to fly away, tornado warnings every ten minutes (these are for the cells that typically generate tornadoes not for actual sightings) but there have been reports. Rivers are rising fast.

Irene goodnight Irene, Irene goodnight, goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene, I'll hear you in my dreams.

I'm a few hours' drive north from Passingtongreen, near the PA-NJ border. Just some rain right now; heavy rains and winds of 30-45 mph expected on Sunday.

A better deal than those along the coast or in NYC.

Interesting week around here: earthquake, hurricane/tropical storm. Any guesses as to what next week will bring?

Just have the power back on. Here in Grand Bahama Irene was reasonable dry. Not what we are used to. The Cat.3 rating was a joke. 8 hours strong winds and gusts, flooding on the North Side of the Island (3 Ft). Al by all no considerable damage here.

Andros, and the Islands more South had a lot more damage. Nassau had luck too.

Well lyn, we're located here in the central Hudson River Valley region and Irene's northwest quadrant is hitting us pretty good now......torential rain driven horizontally by the winds....sustained wind speeds around 45-50 mph with gust around 60 mph. We haven't loss power yet, but friends and some communities nearby have. Flash flooding of streams in our county and other nearby counties is happening now. Nobody is outside or on the streets.

The worse half of the storm hasn't hit us yet...don't think the eye of the storm has passed over yet either. My Sister-in-Law down on the Jersey Shore (near Asbury Park.....yeah, Bruce Springsteen country!) didn't evacuate like she should have....widespread tree falls and downed power lines....no power....localized flooding due to the storm surge at high tide. A tree fell on her brand new Honda Civil smashing the windshield and crushing the hood and roof of the car. Has some house damage, mainly to the roof shingles and wall siding......surprised that her crackerjack little house built as a beach house back in the 20's didn't get blown it's crappy floor slab! IMO, a piece of chit constructed house that I'd condemn! Anyhow, her BAD for not heeding the Mandatory Evacuation order made by the Gov. and State OEM...put not only her life on the line, but that of her 15 year old daughter and my 85 y.o. Mom-in-Law. You'd think that someone, 48 y.o. and has her PhD in Psych (head of her college Psych dept. would have the common sense to bug out like I suggested to her 4 days ago when we were down there visiting??????

Many of my family and friends are stranded at their homes due to washed-out roads. There are local evacuations caused by some major rivers (Hudson, Mohawk) due to crest this afternoon.

Here are some images that were taken about 40 min NE of our HQ by various locals:

Thanks for the update. I hope all your family and friends are safe. Roads can be rebuilt.

For all the pain and loss caused by Irene, it could have been much worse.

No, the pictures were taken in Rensselaer County. The first few pictures are of Route 2 in Grafton. It's a "major" highway for those traveling between VT/MA and NY.

I got up 5AM yesterday got on the computer and thought we lucked out because we were in the southwest quadrant of the storm at that time; however, around 5:20AM the power went out and it is still out, The block I live on is at the end of the power line feeder, block up the street and across the street from me has power; therefore, I'll probably be one of the last ones to get their power back.

A silver maple tree out back had a limb torqued off at the trunk away from my house, Thank God, the limb diameter at this intersection is approximately 14 inches. If it was a bending failure my house would have been hit.

Something that surprises me my electric, telephone, and cable comes to the house using the same poles. My landline telephone works great. No electric, not sure about cable.

There are a lot of out of state lineman around, they park their trucks in vacant lots around where I work. See a lot a trucks with PIKE on side, I do not know where they are from, but I am glad for them being here.

I hope all the other CR4ers and their family and friends in the path of Irene did just as well or better.
