Photovoltaic (Distributed Generation)

08/28/2011 2:30 PM

Hi everyone..

I have some questions about DG with photovoltaic..

I've read many articles about DG and some deduce this

" The purpose of distributed generation is to provide a source of active electric power.

According to this definition, distributed generation does not need to be able to provide reactive power "

**from that sentence it means ( especially for photovoltaic) DG cannot affect voltage profile in distribution bus..!?

**if it can affect the voltage, due to what??

I'm so wondering

I hope all expert engineer and electricians willing to help
thanks,, regards

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

Your question indicates to me that you need to carefully re-read your source documents in consideration of the following comment.

The term "active" (and thus "reactive") has a definite interpretation when in a strictly electrical context, however, many people (who do not specialise in electrical terminology) also use the term active in other context. (Like the children are very active, (as compared to inactive/passive.))

I suggest they are implying that DG is a source of actual (additional) power.

General knowlege public documents may even use the same word with both interpretations in a single document. (Hence my suggestion to re-visit your source documents.)

Without reactive energy, No Active ( Electrical term ) power will be available. However, the user requires only active( electrical or even grammetically ) Power to run their machines.

The source document does not mention that the reactive ( electrical term ) power will not be produced by DG or such things....
