Since there's no way of knowing where you are why don't you contact a local leak detection company.

Acousitc detection works well, I've heard.

The answer can only be as good as the question.

Google "acoustic leak detection".

Water Leak Detectors You might also Google "ultrasonic leak detection".

Just a wild and crazy idea:

Put your hiking boots on and get walking--the whole length of the pipeline. If there are unexplained wet spots on the ground, look there for leaks.

OTOH, maybe there is a way to send some kind of acoustic recorder pig through this line, retrieving a time stamp of where it heard any suspicious noises.

Sooey, sooey!

I don't know if any such "acoustic pig" actually exists, but maybe something could be invented along that line. If significant leakage is occurring, it should produce some noise, audible and/or ultrasonic. If the pig is equipped with a suitable recorder, the time(s) at which noise is detected can be compared with total transit time, narrowing down the leak location(s). Then you could dig in those areas. This is just a basic concept that would need to be fleshed out with details.

(Or another idea altogether--maybe "informal consumers" are tapping your pipeline. You could look for nearby buildings that seem to have no other water source.)
