Hotpoint Fridge Freezer - Wiring Diagram

There used to be a copy of the wiring located inside on the enclosure panel. Not sure if they still mount them there on this brand any more. Other wise you may have to purchase a copy from appliance repair company.

Is the motor still running?

I've had 2 freezers stop working (over a long period, neither Hotpoint). The 2nd one the motor still ran so I suspected a control problem and got an "engineer" in. Waste of time, not only did he not know how the controls work, you couldn't even have an intelligent conversation with him about they might work, or any other aspect of a fridge freezer for that matter. I thought it was a long shot and that turned out right.

So (if I remember right) I bypassed the thermostat, and then the motor ran continuously, but it still didn't freeze. I concluded the compressor had failed, and as I don't think it's practical to repair or replace, I got a new fridge freezer. Bosch this time, and it's already outlasted either of the other 2.

Sounds like you need a new one, but if you manage to fix it, let us know. Always willing to learn!

Or alternatively have any suggestions on what may cause the freezer not to work? We need more info. Is this a frost free refrigerator? Is the "refrigerator portion" cold? Is the "freezer" overly packed as to block the air circulation? Is the compressor running all the time? It could be as simple as redistributing the food away from the air discharge in the freezer. Or, the defrost timer failed in the run position. Or the thermostat failed. Or, you have a freon leak and no freon. Or the compressor failed.

As a general rule the service info. and wire schematics are usually in an envelope near the compressor.

My GE fridge/freezer stopped chilling/freezing last year.

We noticed things thawing in the freezer first i.e. freezer not working.

I had the repair man out and he stated that the circulation fan in the freezer went kaput.

I argued that there was no circulation fan in the freezer because I never heard one running or otherwise never noticed one.

The repair man showed me the fan so I let him replace it.

Once the fan was replaced, the fridge worked like new.

I still can't hear the fan running though, but I'm old, my hearing is probably going.

Check and see if you have a freezer circulation fan and that it is operating (visually).

If you have one it will be mounted inside the freezer compartment on the back wall.

Interesting that with failed fan the freezer stopped working altogether. There's a fan in my fridge section, but I don't think there is in the freezer bit. I'll check sometime.
