Eh? Of what relevance is the paint to the hazardous area?

Fluorescent orange was my favourite colour.

What paint and what hazardous areas are you talking about?

Classification of the hazard would help. Most are finished with power coat epoxy.

Personally, I like blue paint.

Why not use the same as used for a safe area industrial motor?

Any epoxy based paint suitable for the specified environment condition should be OK.

Still curious to know more details from OP as sought by others.

I'd use the non-hazardous type.

Perhaps you sould re-phrase the question.

"hazardous area" implies an atmosphere where a spark might create an explosion.

Do you actually mean "caustic area"? If so, what is the chemical the motor will likely be exposed to?

There is no specific requirement of painting for the motors to be used in the hazardous (classified) locations. Use the paint which is suitable for the weather condition. Generally three-coat painting is good for the motor for wet, salty and corrosive weather. Two-coat is also good enough for regular weather.

If the question supposed to be "what type of paint to apply on a motor in a hazardous area".

The recommendation would be a water, or other non-flammable based paint.

eg a thinners-based paint will provide a hazardous atmosphere around the motor as it dries.

However, the motor should be Ex rated in the first place, so it shouldn't matter at all.

Check with Rust-Oleum, Siemens or Sherwin-Williams or any paint/epoxy manufacturer. Give them the conditions and they can recommend the appropriate coating.

Unless you plan to paint while the motor is running hot in a hazardous area, the paint should be of no issue.
