Buffer Volume During Fuel Switchover at Power Plant

09/03/2011 12:45 AM

Hi,

I would like to know how to calculate buffer volume at fuel line during fuel switchover (natural gas to fuel oil or fuel oil to natural gas) at power plant.

Are there any related codes & standards for this?

Thanks,

You need to install a positive displacement flow meter for liquids on the oil line and for gas on the natural gas line.

Figure out the flow rate for each fuel and how long it takes to switch over to the other fuel.

I would multiply the required buffer volume by 3 just to be safe.
