Welding ASTM B444 Pipe

09/06/2011 7:37 AM

Dear All,

I have to qualify a PQR for welding pipe ASTM B444 Grade1 as per ASME IX section. It is guided to use ERNICRMO-3 electrode. However the tensile strength of this electrode is much lower than that of base metal (i.e B444 grade 1) For instant minimum specified TS for electrode is 760 MPa while base metal is 827 Mpa. Probably if using this electrode the tensile sample will be broken at weld metal.

I am in double if it is acceptable or is there any other filler metal designed for this grade of pipe?

Thank you very much in advance for your advice.

Best regards,

Phu

If you are concerned with matching strength, I would suggest the use of like materials. Use Inco 626 wire to AMS5599. ESAB company has their "Arcaloy ER625" for use with the GTAW or GMAW processes.
