Before you do anything you should investigate the cause of the polarity reversal. There's usually enough residual magnetism in the rotor to cause the field to build up in the right direction unless it has been idle for quite a long time, so I'd be curious what has changed in the generator circuitry. Once you're sure it's just a lack of sufficient magnetism then "Flash it" with a battery through a current limiting resistor.
