Difference Seismic Probe and Bently Nevada Probes

09/09/2011 3:40 AM

Can anyone tell me the major difference between a bently nevada probe and seismic probe as they are used in gas turbines? Can a bently nevada vibration probe trip a gas turbine or is just for monitoring purpose? Thank you for your contributions

Hi,

"Can a bently nevada vibration probe trip a gas turbine or is just for monitoring purpose"

The short answer to this question is YES.

What are you trying to do?

Thanks.

It depends on the Gas Turbine manufacturer. From what I'm guessing, it's a GE Frame 7. The Frame 7FA had Bently prox probes installed to be monitored in Atlanta due to some issues. The Frame 7EA, Bently was only installed at the customers request. The Bently systems were not used to tripped the turbine, only to monitor. The control system Mark ?? trips the turbine on seismic only.

The answer is yes, the Bently system has the capability to monitor and trip the turbine. As your probably aware, caution needs to be exercised with the extreme heat. I've rerouted cables through oil drain lines to avoid cables from burning up.
