There may be several types of process critical high pressure vessels requiring for ASME U stamp. Reframe your question. Which process critical high pressure vessel you want to procure, tell first and ask whether it require ASME U stamp or not.

Manzoor....

The decision to require an ASME or any other type of Code Certification on pressurized process equipment does not belong to a process engineer.

It is either mandated by the contract requirements or by the laws of the country/state where the equipment will be operated.

For example, in the USA, to operate process equipment above 15 psig without an ASME U stamp in Ohio is a violation of the law.

In Europe, you cannot sell pressurized process equipment without a PED certification.

Manzoor, where on earth are you located, where will the equipment be installed and what are the laws..?????

We are negotiating with our General Contractor to construct an Ammonia/Urea complex having capacity of 1000/1760MT/day in Bangladesh.

We don't have specific laws regarding high pressure vessels.

We want to ensure quality equipments for the project.

For pressure vessels we like to follow ASME codes.

We are not sure wheather to ask for U stamp from vendors regarding procurement of some critical equipments.

By asking U stamp is it possible to select reliable equipment manufacturer?

ASME U stamp

NO. You dont have to ask for "U" stamp. the cost of equipment shoots up as ASME approved fabricators are not many in this side of world.

You may engage any reputed fabricator from any of the Asian country to delvier you the equipment. They follow all safety regulation but wont stamp "U".

it is according to each country and according to the jurisdictional authority which followed in establishing of vessels and maintenance control for a specific service.
