Socket Weld Tee to Socket Weld Reducer?

09/15/2011 5:59 AM

Hi, is it possible to connect socket weld tee to socket welk reducer? I am confused by a drawing..... The branch end of SW Tee (1") is directly connected with 1" SW reducer, is it possible?

Do we need s pipe connection between them or they will connect directly? Which part will go into the others recessed area?

Sam,

It is apparent from your questions that you may not be a trained and experienced piper. So please let me offer some help. I also want to apologize for my first short answer. It was obviously not enough for your needs.

I have included the links to graphic and dimensional information on the TEEs and the Swages.

The TEE has a "Socket" that pipe or Swages slip into. There is no need for any pipe between the TEE fitting and the Swage fitting. This can be understood if you consider the Swage as a short piece pf pipe that changes diameter, from what you have to what you want (size wise).

Socket Weld TEEs

Swage Nipples

http://www.chemoilproducts.com/pdf/piping%20products/Swage%20Nipples.pdf

Please look at both of these links (print them out) study them and you may be able to understand what you can do.

I also want to invite you to visit the "Training" page of the following web site:

http://www.pipingdesigners.com/Training.htm

Read everything there, including the article on "Fittings"

The term I have seen most for this is "socket weld insert", which is basically an unthreaded bushing. The large end (male) inserts directly into the female socket of the tee; the small end (female) receives the smaller pipe.

A related term "fitting reducer" is commonly used for soldered/brazed copper fittings. In contrast, a "reducing coupling" or "bell reducer" receives a pipe on both of its female ends.
