Hi Everyone !

Can you please tell the benefit of adding a diode in parallel with IGBT in converters?

In bridge circuits where reverse current flow is needed an additional diode (
called a freewheeling diode) is placed in parallel with the IGBT to conduct current
in ...

I Google "diode parallel IGBT" got this, you also can google and get lot of info.

During re-generation, the power generated by the motor (in regeneration mode) will have to flow back to the DC Link Capacitor. The IGBT cannot conduct in reverse. SO you need a diode (reverse connected) to accomplish this.
