The system that current or future employeer's use. Otherwise take a class at your local community college and use what they have.

The one that you have.

It also depends what you want to accomplish. There are numerous free two (and three) D systems out there that are adequate for many jobs. Just search for free cad programs.

Lots of people use Auto Cad, but there are free systems that you could learn on that would transfer over to Auto Cad later.

Then solid modeling complicates things further.

Tell us what you want to do with the skills, once you acquire them.

Depends on what you intend to do. Solid Modeling? 2D CAD mechanical? Schematics?

I've found the best way to learn is simply by doing it. Practice makes perfect. A good class would also be of help.

" A good class would also be of help."

Best advice yet.

I inherited AutoCad at work. Knew nothing about it. Tried to use the manuals and "AutoCad For Dummies" and learn it.

I took a two day class, AutoCad 101 from Autodesk's local vendor. Best two days I could have spent. I could at least perform the operations I needed to for the job at hand after the class.
